Informative Speech

Write one well-written and thought-out paragraph. Use complete sentences and correct grammar. Upper class students should be writing paragraphs with compound and complex sentences that are a minimum of six sentences long. Please specifically comment on your introduction, conclusion, and visual aid. For your introduction--did you cover the four points of a good introduction? Conclusion--solid? Are all three parts included? Visual aid-seamless? Did you read off of it or was it an incorporated part of your speech?

In addition, you may comment on the following aspects as well:
  1. Eye Contact
  2. Nervousness
  3. Audience Feedback
  4. Preparation--did you practice enough? Too much?
  5. Speaking rate (too fast? too slow? too many pauses?)
  6. Gestures (Did you do any?)
  7. Poise and Presence
  8. Organization
  9. Facial Expressions
  10. Dressed and groomed?
  11. Outline/Note Cards/Manuscript
  12. Works Cited?

What went well? What do you need to work on for the next speech? Be as specific as possible!

In addition, leave feedback for at least two students. Feedback should be specific and original

  1. Hello, To be blunt, I had little preparation and littler organization even though I had the presentation. This speech was created the night before which was not a smart idea. The Speech was also two minutes short. I am not happy with myself, I plan to improve, but that will only have to be determined by myself.

    1. Hello, To be blunt, you gave a pretty good speech even though you may have had little organization. You seemed to know what you were talking about, but you did say "Um" like 50 times. Other than that you did a pretty good job on the speech over all

  2. The words that come out of my finger tips are Steven Kelly's words
This speech was by far the most fun for me to research. I like to learn just random facts about animals and 2 of these animals were ones I have never even heard of. I really think I needed more practice for this speech, my eye contact was not very good. I also had very few hand gestures. My pace, I felt like, was fast every now and again. My volume was good and i thought I had a good strong conclusion

    1. Swell job fellow class mate. The speech you gave was fun to listen to and it is easy to remember what facts you said about each animal. The performance you gave besides the speech itself was fine, at least from my point of view. Overall good job, and have a nice day.

    2. Phteven, I like every speech you give because you always do something to keep our attention, whether it be shouting something or acting crazy. You seemed to enjoy the topic that you did, and it was an interesting topic.

    3. Steven, I always enjoy your speeches. You are filled with energy and that grabs the audiences attention. Your speech was informative as well as entertaining. I had no idea a lizard could shoot blood out of it's eyes, or that a jungle cat could sound like a monkey. Keep up the good work!

    4. Steven I love listening to your speech. You seemed to be very passionate and it looks like you did a good job researching your topic. Your organization was better than previous speeches and you made good eye contact. I can't wait to here all your other speeches!

  3. Steven, your speech was pretty funny and very informative. I never the horned lizard could shoot blood out of it's eyes or that there was a certain type of jungle cat that sounded like a monkey. My whole mind has been blown and now I am more open to the possibilities that almost anything can exist. Thank you so much for sharing!

  4. My speech was great. I made great contact and I feel like I'm gaining confidence as I go along. I was very well organized and I prepared by practicing with my mom. I wasn't completely happy with it so I edited some stuff and added some parts in. I didn't make any gestures, but my poise was great. I think my visual aid caught everybody's attention, but I feel like I lost some people a bit during the middle of my speech. For my comments Marissa, you did great but put more expression into it. Liz, you need to speak up a little more. Your speech was great too but there were some parts where I couldn't hear you in some parts. Don't be afraid to speak up we're all listening!

    1. I enjoyed your speech, while it was a little hard for me to understand what the connection between the video and your speech had. Besides that I'm glad that you feel confident, it really shows, also your facts were solid, which is great. With everything said and done, have a nice day.

    2. I liked your speech I also liked the trailer for Bio-shock at the beginning and that really caught my attention you had good pace and eye contact and you had good time also

  5. My speech went well overall I think. This was the most confident I've been speaking wise for this class so far. I know I need to work more on my confidence but for this speech i feel like this is definitely the best. I thought the manuscript was very helpful, but I should have made more eye contact. Also, I felt like I rushed my slides and didn't explain them very well.

Rachel: you had my favorite speech. You were confident, and the topic was genuinely interesting. Well done!! Things to work on: eye contact

Steven: Your speech made me laugh because I thought all of those facts were fascinating and you did a great job with giving good info, but that lizard was absolutely nasty!! Things to work on: stronger conclusion

Hailey: You were obviously well prepared and took lots of time deciding what information to use for Oprah. You nailed it! I really enjoyed your conclusion too and i liked how you threw in the candy at the end!! Really Creative. Things to work on: nothing for that speech

Matt: I really enjoyed listening to your speech and I felt like you definitely took time to prepare. You had lots of good facts and information and the topic was really unique. I hadn't realized how small I really was!! Great Job! Things to work on: eye contact

JAcob: Good job, I thought you seemed a little unprepared, but you did a good job finding information and getting a really good topic. It's interesting how Gatorade came about!! Things to work on: being prepared.

Daniel: For a last minute speech where you were not prepared, I thought you did a remarkable job pulling yourself together to give that speech. You obviously knew your stuff and were passionate on the topic. Things to work on: being ready to give your speech

    1. I would say that you had a solid speech, I enjoyed it, and it was easy to listen to. I would have to agree on your point on eye contact, other than that keep up the good work.

  6. I was about to change my topic the night before it was due because after working on my speech for over a week, it got really boring. I felt like it was just too factual and there were not a lot of interesting points made about it. I only did the topic because I grew up around guns, but I tried to make it a little more interesting than what it was.

    1. Guns, Bang bang. I enjoyed your speech, mostly because I enjoy guns and the history behind them. You sounded great with the facts, but I think you might need some work on your closing statement, other than that...Have a nice day.

  7. steven Kelly Said This:
Bret this was by far, in my opinion, your best speech this year. You seem fairly well prepared compared to some of your previous speeches. You were always engaged in your topic, you seemed really interested in presenting this topic. I didn't know any thing at all about secret organizations or the conspiracy that they are in high places in the government. You did really good at not being boring and kept me interested through out the whole speech GOOD JOB

  8. sTeveN KeLlY to matt Bremmer:
Matt your speech was relly cool. I always liked facts about space and to learn something that I have not even heard of was really awesome. Your pace was consistent the whole time, I also really liked the comparisen to things we know and then show us slowly till you got to the super ultra mega big star. All in all I really enjoyed your speech

  9. I thought my speech went decently well, however I do not think I practiced it as many times as I should have, because I did not feel as comfortable as I would like up at the podium. I would like to work on eye contact and overall feeling more comfortable up at the podium. Also I think I could have had a few more visual aids.

Matt Bremer: I thought your speech was really awesome. It's weird to think about how small and insignificant we really are. It's amazing to think about and to wrap my head around. As for the speech itself I thought you did everything well, nice eye contact and flow.

Alex Schiller: My good man you never cease to blow my mind. Nice topic and very interesting although a tad short. I thought it went well and you seem to be getting more and more comfortable giving speeches. Keep up the good work.

    1. Jolly day, good fellow. I enjoy your work, and also your style...of your speech. Your speech flowed like a calm river, I do not know what that means, but i hope it is good. In conclusion, Swell job, and always, have a nice day.

    2. Your speech was pretty good it was interesting that people would volunteer to live in a place where its difficult to breath but whatever you did a really good job and kept my attention very well

    3. I really liked your speech Aaron. I thought the topic was really good and something that you really kept interesting. I think you could have had better eye contact but you seemed a lot more confident in this speech. I also like the video you showed and think it was a good visual aid and you didn't need to show anything else.

  10. Honestly I think that was one of my best speeches so far I enjoyed the topic and it only took a little amount of research because I knew a lot about it. I think my speech could have been better if I would have practiced more. My speech was almost a little short but I did make time and I think I had decent eye contact

    1. PJ I thought your speech was well done. The information you presented was shocking, and it kept the class engaged. The visual really got your point across and got us to understand how serious your topic was. Good job.

    2. PJ, you picked a bold topic. But i think that you presented it very well. I also liked the video that you showed because it just added to the shocking nature of your topic.

  11. I thought this speech was one of my best yet. I took the time to do my research on my topic, and did my best to put things in my own words. My intro was more creative than in past speeches, and I made sure it included all of the necessary parts. I am always nervous and need to work on eye contact, however I felt my speech was well received by the audience. While writing the speech, I went through it with my mom several times until all the corrections needed were made. I also practiced with her a few times and received feed back on my performance. My speech was organized and had transitions. I used a manuscript, and I was presentable for my speech.

    1. I thought your speech was pretty good Marissa you had all the information together and I found that I learned something I never knew. I also loved the video and how we could see the characters that were in black in white. You just need to take your time and just believe in yourself I know you were a little nervous and you didn't look at the crowd but everything was good keep up the work.

  12. I think my speech went very well. I left out a few fact due to a slight organization issue. Overall my eye contact has gotten better. I felt very passionate and confident about my topic. this was a very fun speech to give and it was fun to listen to your speeches. Hopefully it was obvious how much time and research and effort I put into my speech. I'd still like to improve my speeches with the few we have left.

    1. I thought it was a pretty good speech Matt. The topic was really cool and I think it was something that could have easily become boring with all the facts but you kept it interesting. I liked your intro and the powerpoint with pictures to compare was really good. Also the tennis ball could have been distracting when you threw it but you kept on topic and kept attention. Good Job!

  13. Rachel, Your speech blew my mind as much as my research did. I had no idea that that was connected and I think you did a very good job explaining it. Your eye contact could have been better but you sounded conversational and confident. Nice job

  14. I think this was my best speech so far. I worked hard on the manuscript for this speech and when I practiced it I kept messing up at a few points but pulled it together when it was time to actually present. I think I could have memorized my speech a little more in order to make more eye contact, but like i said, I kept messing up at some parts so I really used the manuscript to help me through it. I also think my pace may have been a bit fast at times, when I practiced I could barely keep my speech under 8 minutes and it went much faster in class. Although there are things I still need to work on, I think I was more confident and ready for this speech. I also think I had a good intro and the transitions of my speech were good and I have decided that using a manuscript is really good for me even though I have to work on eye contact.

    1. Rachel, I really enjoyed your speech. Not only did you catch everyones attention, and get them thinking, but you also presented the information well and used your visual aid well.

  15. I think my speech was pretty good I thought I was really nervous and I know I need to work on presenting it in front of more people for practice. There are a lot of parts I need to work on even though we already far into are speeches such as not being nervous and looking at the crowd which I know I hardly did. I feel like I didn't have enough time to get prepared for this speech but there were a bunch that good topics just have to narrow it down. For the speeches to come I would like to more prepared and work on my weakness so I can improve on speaking and the speeches were about to do

  16. I thought that my speech was, in my opinion, a 7 out of 10. I could have practice a few more times. And it also doesn’t help to change your topic the night before your speech. I would have liked to go into a little more detail on Jobs as a person. As well as have a better visual add. Over all I think my speech was just okay.

  17. I thought that this speech was probably the best one i have done so far except for some of the jokes i threw in there there were bad and cheesy but it worked out alright because i actually had fun with this speech i thought my eye contact was decent and i stuttered a couple of times probably because i didn't practice as much as i should have. and it would have been better if i brought a visual aid

Hailey Chang- i thought your speech on Oprah was great everyone loves her and her story on how she became famous is inspirational.you did a nice job talking about her accomplishments because there are so many of them its hard to narrow it down instead of listing them all off, but my favorite part was when you threw the candy out like oprah does with gifts

Daniel G - I really liked your speech on the smith and Wesson because im a gun person as well. I thought your speech was very informational i learned a lot of new things about that gun i never knew before.

Matt Bremer- i loved your speech on the solar system you had a great intro by asking how small we really are. I love outer space its so hard to comprehend how big the solar system is and how you compared all the stars to our son was mind blowing.
