1 Minute of Fame Speech

What are you famous for doing? After your one minute of fame speech, reflect on it below. Write one well-written and thought-out paragraph. Use complete sentences and correct grammar. Upper classmen should be writing paragraphs with compound and complex sentences that are a minimum of six sentences long. Things to consider (you do not need to include all of them)

  1. Eye Contact
  2. Nervousness
  3. Audience Feedback
  4. Preparation
  5. Speaking Rate (Too fast? Too slow? Too many pauses?)
  6. Gestures (Did you do any?)
  7. Poise and Presence
  8. Introduction and Conclusion
  9. Organization
  10. Facial Expressions
  11. The actual trick, talent, or gift you shared--would you do that again or pick something else?

What went well? What do you need to work on for the next speech? Be as specific as possible!

  1. I have pretty neutral feelings on this speech, it wasn't anything amazing that stood out but it wasn't terrible either. I didn't mind memorizing it, however I prefer having an outline to glance at in case I lose my train of thought. I was planning to have a video to show of me playing the drums, however, I ran out of time to record it and so had to improvise and just talk. I felt confident and calm, my conclusion could have been a bit stronger, but overall this speech was ok. If I had to choose a talent again, I would still pick this one, however I would make sure to find time to record a video of it to give some visual aid as well.

    1. I thought your speech was really interesting. I had no clue you played the drums so that was a cool thing to learn about you. Your speech connected with me because we saw your step-dad play over the summer. I thought you seemed really confident and maintained eye contact. I felt the same way I like having a note card to look at.

    2. This is nate kappes-- I thought your speech was great. I did learn something new about you because I had no idea that you played the drums. I thought it was pretty cool that you got asked to go perform on stage. Overall I liked your speech and it was up there with my favorites so far.

    3. I thought you had a strong introduction and speech. I did not know that about you! I think it's super cool that you get to go to all these concerts and sell the merch! Awesome job! You also seemed way confident up there

    5. Kendra, this speech was very good! I did not know that about you and it is very cool to hear about. You seemed extremely confident an poised up there and you had good eye contact. You had a strong intro and conclusion that tied the speech together as a whole.

    6. Nice job, you made pretty great eye contact and you got everyone's attention because I along with most of the class didn't know that you played drums. You made everyone think "drums? she plays drums?" which in this case is a pretty great response. Well done, you should have brought in a whole drum set. :-)

    7. Kendra you had really great eye contact and you looked poised and confident up there giving your speech! I think you shared something great with the class that they never knew about. Overall you had a great speech with a great opening and concluison

  2. This was my favorite speech because it was very easy talking about a topic that you know so much about already. I was way too tired to give a proper conclusion, so I wish I would've planned that differently. But overall I think it went pretty well because all I had to do was give an introduction and then a light show.

    6. Your talent was my favorite, I was totally mesmerized the entire time and wasn't bored at all. The music was cool and it was such a unique talent that I knew a little bit about but have never seen in person. It was obvious how much you practice and the effort you put into learning this skill, so props to you for that.

    7. I really liked your speech. I think it is so cool that you are able to do that and were able to pick it up so quickly. You had a strong introduction and did a really good job transitioning from that to the actual light show. Great job!

    8. I think it is a really good talent. I was just like watching a talent show. Because I never saw anyone do that show in front of me. Good job!

    9. Everyone was captivated by your speech Zack. You had everyone wanting to know more and see more because a lot of what you did was new for us to see and up until you did your dance for the stage fright I didn't even know they existed. Nice job, we all learned something new from your speech.

    10. I loved the light show it sort of hypnotizing like that giant boa constrictor from the jungle book movie you stare into the moving lights and you get lost which is pretty cool. I wish there was a little more talking but it was not necessary given that what you gave us already was amazing.

    11. Zack, I really really enjoyed your speech/show! You doing your gloving was super cool, I think everyone was mesmerized by the lights and how cool it looked! you had a strong into and conclusion, Great job!

    12. I liked your speech, Zack. I liked how you went up and shared something that you recently got into and shared how you now love to glove. I also liked the light show you did with your gloves. Lastly, you seemed very prepared and confident with what to say and what you were going to do with your light show.

  3. This was my favorite speech so far. I felt very comfortable up there talking about something that I knew was easy. Talking about an experience that recently happened was easy to because I remembered everything from state and what we did. I felt very poised when I was up there and I felt like I had good eye contact. So overall I felt that my speech went pretty well this time around and I think and hope the rest of the year will go just as easy.

    2. You seemed very comfortable up there and told the story in a relate-able way. Overall good speech. I agree it is easier to talk about an experience you went through as opposed to the News Article speech where you didn't have personal information.

    4. I liked your speech nate. I liked that you were able to talk about something you love and the accomplishments that came with it. A lot of people can say they like doing something but they might not have the records or wins to show for it. You looked like you were talking about something you like and could tell you were comfortable. Nice job.

    5. Nate, you looked very comfortable talking about what you loved to do and although you didn't demonstrate anything the story was still able to paint a picture in our minds of what happened. You didn't need a demonstration since you told such an in-depth story. Great Job.

    7. In every speech so far, you seemed like you're always prepared and you know what you're going to say. You also seemed very confident with what you wanted to talk about. Lastly, I was able to relate, because I too play and love golf.

  4. This speech was easy to talk about because it was based on personal experience and you pretty much just told a story. For whatever reason I cannot shake this nervousness that makes my voice shake. It is getting pretty frustrating because I'm trying to slow down and take a breath but it just makes it worse. If I could get rid of the shaking and maintain better eye contact my speeches would be a lot better. I felt like my speech was pretty well organized and I had a strong introduction though my conclusion could have been stronger. Overall my speech wasn't bad but it could have been better.

    1. Alex I liked your intro. It was a cool transition into the body of your speech. I liked how You talked about something that in other people's eyes does not seem like a good thing but that it helped you grow as a person and a runner. Very good job.

      Delete
    2. Your introduction was the strongest part of your speech, it caught my attention immediately. I enjoy how you tied in your personal growth as a person with your love of running, and it was very obvious how much you love to run. I totally connected with the whole thing you said on how before you run you absolutely dread it, but once you start you get that "runner's high". Overall a nice job, your speeches have been awesome so far so there's no reason to have the nervousness & shakiness!

    3. I really enjoyed your speech. Your intro was interesting. I never would have thought to start a speech that way. To be honest, I never really notice your voice shaking. You seemed well prepared and confident up there!

    4. You wield raw emotion like a broad sword and it is amazing. It helps you to connect to the people. I still do not notice this supposed shaking in the lungs. However if you wanted to why not be like a reverend and use the shaking and the hand clapping to throw people into a feel good frenzy then truly your speech would be unstoppable. The Pen is mightier that the sword.

    5. Your intro really got the audience's attention and made us all focus in on your topic. You seemed very comfortable and confident talking about your topic. Your transitions were solid and you kept our attention throughout the entire speech. I love how you connected running with other things in your personal life! I cannot wait to hear your "Something I Treasure" speech.

  5. I was actually very, very nervous for this speech. I feel like some of the nerves got in that way of my speaking and I felt as though I left some things out. I don't normally like getting into detail about me wrestling with people who don't really know or understand what I do. But I was very excited and glad I was able to show everyone what I do. As some probably already know from Instagram and Facebook posts! I do think I am gaining a confidence in giving speeches after this one.

    2. I really enjoyed your speech as well. I like watching wrestling on tv and had no idea you did that. I liked that you were confident in what you do and were able to show us what you accomplished. I really liked your speech and hope you are able to keep doing what you love to do.

    3. Sarah, I had known you've enjoyed wrestling as I went to school with you at Grace and had always heard your class talk about it, however it's really cool that you actually went out and pursued your dream! That takes a lot of dedication and time, and it was fun to see you actually doing the thing you have such a passion for. I know I personally wouldn't enjoy being smacked around that much, so it's awesome that you do that and can hand it right back to the person smacking you around. You seemed very confident and I could tell how much you love talking about wrestling.

    4. Sarah, I thought your speech was awesome! I know you were nervous when you talked to me before giving your speech and those nerves did not seem to translate into your speech. It is awesome how dedicated you are to wrestling and how you like to achieve your goals. You had good eye contact, and a nice visual aid.

    5. Sarah, your speech was great. You told everyone about what you love to do even if it is a little unconventional for a high school student. It was really interesting hearing about how you got to where you are today. The clip that you played was also pretty cool. Nice job.

  6. Honestly this speech was hard for me to plan because I did not know what I was going to talk about until the night before. I had different things that I was going to talk about but I did not because of the fear of coming across as cocky and arrogant. I felt that my eye contact was better in this speech though. I wish I would have had a stronger conclusion. I think being the first person to go was a relief and not a pain for this speech in particular. All in all, this speech was not my worst but it definitely was not my best.

  7. I thought this speech went pretty well for me. Although, I would definitely not say that this has been my best speech. I lost eye contact because i was too busy looking at the visual aide I was showing ti the class. I also blanked on some of the main points within the scrapbook. I didn't really like doing this speech because it was kind of hard to find common ground with it. I also didn't like figuring out what I'm good at. All in all, I think I did an all right-mediocre speech.

    1. Krista, I liked your speech because a lot of my family scrapbooks and/or have given me scrapbooks so I was able to really connect. You always smile a lot when you give your speeches which I think is awesome, it gives off a happy and confident vibe. The visual aid was great too, the scrapbooks were very creative and nice. You were able to show us something you like to do and tie it in with a family vacation a bit as well, which was good.

    2. I liked your speech because it was something different. Lots of kids are outside doing sports but you are inside putting together some pretty awesome scrapbooks. Although when you showed them I don't think half of the class could see them because of the way you were holding them I was able to see a few of the pictures and they all look really cool. Nice job overall and keep on scrap booking!

  8. I really liked this speech. I was able to tell the class something that I like to do and the proper way of doing it. It took me a little while to think of what to do. I felt this was the thing I needed to share with the rest of the class. I feel that I did alright but could have done better. I found myself trying to find the next thing to say after I had talked about the form of tackling. I know I probably would have done better if I had something in front of me. Overall I feel I did good and am ready to have a script in front of me in the next speech.

    1. Tyler, your speech was overall very good. You're always one of the most calm and collected people upstage, and your eye contact was also very good. I like that you showed the various short clips of your football games and also explained to the class some tips, it helped connect the speech a bit more to those of us who don't play football or have much knowledge of it.

    2. Tyler, your speech was very organized and it flowed well. You had excellent eye contact and seemed very confident. You did not seem phased by not having a script and I think your visual aid taught us all something we did not know about.

    3. Tyler, I like your speech. Because your gesture and eye contact is very good. I think you did very good job. You made your phone as an example which is a very good idea. Keep doing well!

    4. I liked your speech because even though it did feel like a little bit like a tutorial on how to tackle I still learned how to tell which way a person is going to go in the hallway from now on. :-) I like that you showed us video from an actual game. You made pretty solid eye contact quite a few times and you made it feel like you were really talking to me personally. Nice job

    1. Honestly Sam, other than you going a little bit under the time and announcing to the class that you forgot you had a speech that day I would not have known. From what you had, it flowed well and it all tied together well in the end. Nice job winging it.

  10. This was my favorite speech yet. I liked not having anything to look at because it improved my eye contact and how I practiced. This made me practice more, which caused me to be more confident. I felt like my speech was well organized and flowed well. It was fun to talk about something more personal that I was well informed on.

  11. I think that this speech went fairly well for me. Since it was memorized, I definitely had an easier time maintaining eye contact. I also think I had a good pace. I usually talk a bit too fast, but I just kept reminding myself to slow down. One thing that did not go well I think was my volume. I may have been speaking too quiet, but I am not sure. Overall, I enjoyed this speech and think I did fairly well on it.

    1. Sharon, although your speech was a little hard to understand you still were able to get your main point across. You spoke a little on the fast side but in the end you did a very nice job and made everyone really think about what you said and how it could pertain to our lives.

  13. I enjoyed this speech, I was pretty well prepared and I knew what I wanted to do. Although I did not display my talent I thought that the story was able to get the point across well enough. I tried really hard to make eye contact with everyone but I think I still missed a few people. I thought my introduction was solid and well formed but in my conclusion I felt like I was struggling to keep attentions and I could not find the right words to say. Overall I thought this speech went well but I need to work on making more eye contact with everyone.

    2. I really liked your speech. Mainly because we had "common ground." Coming from a goalie also, I understood the scenario you told us well. I also found it very interesting and intriguing. You had good volume and spoke at a good level of speed so everyone could understand you well.

  14. Whoa yeah I forgot about this replying thing so my bad. This speech. Yeah this speech was okay I think. I don't usually share this kind of stuff with people because you know it makes a person seem crazy to which yes I pretty well gotten that down to art by now. I was not sure what topic to go with at first and this was a bit last minute (buh dum tsss). I did practice a lot. I think I got like one hand gesture in there so yeaaaah achievement get unlocked. I was able to make eye contact but that was expected for this speech. overall it was fun to speak about this topic and I think just maybe you know I was able to perhaps you know with just the smallest way connect to other people. You know because everyone can do this because it is like day dreaming pretty much or just the regular imagination.

  15. I had a great time with this speech and I really enjoyed it. I like how I could speak and demonstrate at the same time. Explaining some of the different scenarios in tennis cant really be just spoken but also demonstrated. I would've been on the other side facing the audience, but I would of had to yell then and I also felt that a side/back view of me would be better for the audience to see my body language. Overall, this was my favorite speech yet. I am looking forward to "something I treasure."

  16. This speech was not one of my favorites. I didn't really like how it was like a mix of the impromptu style and the notes. I feel like I didn't put as much work into this one as I did all the other ones. Though, my topic was easy to talk about. It was something fun that I like to do that is original to me. I was very nervous to go up there and practically make a fool of myself, but I am very used to that feeling. This was the first time I felt some judgmental eyes. I think I spoke slower and I really connected with the audience. This was a very fun speech, though it wasn't my favorite. I need to work on really dedicating myself to memorizing all the points that I need to touch on in the future since I missed some important ones while I was up there.

  17. I guess that I enjoyed this speech, because I don't mind memorizing anything and I could talk about the talent that I shared for at least a minute. Even though I enjoyed this speech, I still need to work on talking clearer and louder. Also, I need to work on not saying "ummm" as a filler word and just accept the silence as a pause. Lastly, I thought I should've demonstrated my talent. Overall, I thought I did pretty good and I hope I can do this type of speech again since I am good at memorizing things.
